Raihan is fifteen years old and her dream is to be a professional kick boxer, even to participate in the Olympic Games. Julia studies engineering, is twenty years old and Jiu-jitsu helps her to know herself, to be stronger and to break down emotional barriers. Mar is thirty-one years old, a boxer and personal trainer, and would like to be able to make a living from sport and motivate others to share her passion. Finally, Cristina and Inma have a very close and unique relationship: Inma is a Karate teacher who has been practising Karate for more than thirty years and Cristina is her pupil, a Kata competitor and also a Karate teacher with children and young people.
All five have found in sport a space to connect with themselves and with others, a motivation to overcome their fears and insecurities and, above all, a path of perseverance, effort and happiness. Despite encountering difficulties due to the clichés surrounding martial arts, they have not been impediments, but rather another reason to vindicate martial arts as a sport for all. A “double” fight that goes beyond the combat itself or the physical resistance that is reflected in the dynamics, routines and visibility of women in these styles. Nothing defines this paradigm better than Inma’s words: “This world has always been a man’s world, and combining your life as a mother, as a student, working, being a teacher… is difficult, but I continue on the path with a lot of enthusiasm and strength”.
