Josep teaches his niece, Iris, to play chess during Christmas. She says goodbye to him thinking that she will see him again tomorrow for lunch, but Josep suffers a heart attack the next morning and dies. Iris’s parents try to prevent her from finding out about the death, and they hide the secret from her for several days, even letting her sleep over at a friend’s house to get her away from the drama. Iris will suspect that things are going wrong in her family, and finally, her father will end up telling her. She will not know how to react, and at the last dinner of that Christmas, she tries to play chess as Josep taught her, but she will realize that she still needs her help.
